Showcasing young talent

The Rolleston Drama Festival will exhibit the work of several drama classes incorporating PLAY Drama Workshops and Selwyn Singing Stars with monologues, fairy tales, robots, zoo animals, Shakespeare, school classrooms and more.
“I have teamed up with Jacqui Soper, Belle Williams and Josiah Morgan. We are working to produce devised and scripted work for children to showcase at the end of this term,” says PLAY Drama Workshops manager Nickie Hughes.
“We are presenting the show so parents can see what we do and the different styles that we work with. It will also give the children the opportunity to see each other perform and observe a variety of techniques.
They will be able to reflect together later on what they did.
“They are working really hard, and everything will be what we have worked on this term. The students are from 5 years old to year 11. I thought it would be great for the younger children to see how far they can go in drama working with the older group.
“It will be a really entertaining show with a mix of scripted classes as well as devised theatre. Devised theatre gives the children a structure, and they come up with the ideas themselves. At PLAY Drama Workshops we do a lot of creating with the children leading the theatre.
“We would love the community to join us and support us for the evening. Students from all over Rolleston will be performing in this showcase on Saturday, March 28 from 5pm to 7pm at Clearview Primary School, 20 Broadlands Drive, Rolleston.”
