Children and adults alike will be able to try their hand at a variety of competitions at the Annual Malvern Family Fun Day on February 6 from 10am to 2pm at the Darfield Domain.

“The event was established by kind-hearted community volunteers many years ago. It is a loved family day out that has grown in popularity over the years and is now hosted by the Two Rivers Community Trust,” says organiser Rachael Inch.

“This year’s theme will be a trip down memory lane back to years gone by with old school sack races, wheelbarrow races, gumboot throwing with the Selwyn Parenting Network and tug of war.

“It is also an opportunity to establish a strong area community and showcase Malvern’s local services, groups and initiatives, such as the Darfield Community Garden and promote connectedness in the Malvern community. People from all walks of life come together, strengthening their bonds, and that can improve wellbeing and help alleviate personal struggles. These events help keep old traditions alive while making new ones as we build a strong sense of community pride where people belong, contribute and flourish.

“We will have bouncy castles, pedal mania, face painting, archery, house of bricks and music. There will also be plenty of interactive creative activities from Selwyn Creative Network and the Selwyn Sports Trust. The vintage fire engine rides are $2 a ride with most other activities free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and we encourage people to bring a picnic to enjoy together.”
