Children from around Rolleston and beyond are gearing up and gathering items to sell at the Rolleston Kids’ Christmas Market.

“The market is now in its third year and is getting stronger and stronger. I got the idea from KidsFest in Lincoln and thought we need an event here in our area,” says Rolleston Community Centre operations manager Martine Hearfield.

“We like the idea of recycling and upcycling while focussing on sustainability and helping children gain an understanding of the value of money.”

This year started with 55 stalls and has increased to 65 due to demand.

“It is such a good experience for them. They bring anything but food and drink due to health regulations.

“Some make items and others clear out their toys, books, figures, board games and more making it a very colourful event. Sustainability is important to many people, and it is a great time to buy for Christmas.

“The children have been very excited and those who have made things are very proud. It is nice to see happy children.”

There will be a coffee cart on-site, a bouncy castle, face painting and balloon animals. “It is about having something for the children to be able to buy or sell pre-loved treasures.

“We have Christmas trees and music — it will have a very festive atmosphere with fun to be had by all.

“I would love a local community group to take over the running the event if anyone is interested to keep it growing as we focus on our next project. If you are interested — call me on 03 347 2882.” The Rolleston Kids’ Christmas Market is at the Rolleston Community Center, 94 Rolleston Drive on Saturday, December 7 from 1pm–3pm.
