Tons of family fun

by Ann van Engelen

Thursday last week saw the coming together of communities as Selwyn Parenting Network Family Fun Day proudly delivered on its promise of connectedness and fun for all.

“Record numbers of families, parents, caregivers and children poured into the Lincoln Event Centre,” says coordinator for Selwyn Parenting Network, Kate Webb.

“There was pony rides, juggling workshops and the popular crazy bikes from Pedalmania. The young up and coming band called Out of Control took the stage with many young dancers joining in.

“Children tested their running speed against the accurate measurement of a police speed laser, and Lincoln Firefighters brought their inflatable evacuation maze, which saw children learning to get down, get low and get out.

“This year’s event has proved to be a highlight on the 2019 agenda. A highlight was attracting almost 30 local volunteers of all ages to assist us, proving that ‘giving back’ is still at the heart of many in our community. We had a wonderful mother join her two teenage daughters for the duration of the event and more than two dozen students from local schools. This is what it is all about, coming together, connecting as a whole community and delivering on our promise to unite strong, confident and caring families and whanau across Selwyn.

“Our thanks extend to everyone who helped make it one to truly remember.

We just love being able to pull together an affordable family event that showcases our regional strategic partners, and opens opportunities and learning for all.”
