Youth help needed
by Ann van Engelen
The annual Selwyn Parenting Network Family Fun Day has volunteer opportunities for youth and adults to gain community experience while helping to facilitate the event on Thursday, October 10.
“We will once again be collaborating with other community groups to present a Family Fun Day. It is a time for people to come together for a fabulous day of fun and connectedness,” says coordinator Kate Webb.
“The day will be held at the Lincoln Events Centre and is an opportunity for young people to gain community volunteering experience to add to your CV. Ninety-three per cent of employers believe volunteering gives credible work experience, as you help make a difference to our communities.
“The event is scheduled to coincide with the spring school holidays. We encourage parents/caregivers to take one day away from work to enjoy precious quality time with their children.”
The entertainment and attractions include circus juggling and performance, pony rides and farmyard animals, creative opportunities, physical activities and sports. There will be a $2 sausage sizzle, emergency services vehicles, bouncy castles, house of bricks LEGO, face painting, a mini nail bar and more.
“We aim to have a huge range of educational and informative material available from healthy eating through to mental wellbeing from birth babies and toddlers, through to raising teenagers.
“Entry is just $2 per person, and this provides access to all the activities and entertainment. We want to keep things affordable for whanau and encourage you to pack a picnic, water bottles and sun hats and enjoy three hours of fun together.
“If volunteers have an interest in beauty, culinary skills or the creative sector, we can look to pair you with one of our many interactive hubs.” For further information, email email@example.com or phone 027 229 2001.
