The Christchurch International Plastic Modellers Society is hosting the 2019 NZ IPMS National Competition and Model Expo at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, Wigram, on the weekend of September 7 and 8.

“This is the premier event on the IPMS calendar, and we display scale models of all types allowing members to compete for the coveted Best in Show award,” says IPMS Christchurch president Thomo Thomson.

“This year’s theme will commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy Campaign from June 6 to August 30, 1944. It includes Best in Class awards and ribbons for differing levels of excellence.“

The Christchurch IPMS branch was formed in 1987 from the former Christchurch Military Modelling Society, which originally began in 1977.

“The event is open to the whole family to attend with history-related displays including scale models from aircraft, military, ships, cars and sci-fi. Radio-controlled boats and model train layouts with one that children can operate, a vast Meccano display and large-scale military figures and vehicles.

“There will be history groups with uniform and weapon displays, wargaming in progress for visitors to have a go at and a ‘Project Airfix’ table where children can make a model of their choice, to take home. We will have vendors selling all manner of models from tanks and cars, aircraft, ships and a variety of modelling materials.”

Doors open 10am both days with gold coin entry or $5 a family.
