Darfield’s shopping extravaganza
by Ann van Engelen
Stallholder registrations are now open for the annual Fundraising Shopping Day in support of the Malvern Cancer Support Group.
The event will be held at the Darfield Recreation Centre from 10am–2pm on Sunday, November 3.
“We are a local group who want to support the Malvern Cancer Support Group again this year. The support group will be providing refreshments throughout the day and running a fundraising raffle. It is a fun day out while people get to enjoy a great local shopping experience,” says co-organiser Pip Deans.
“It is a way to give something back to the community. Stalls are predominantly inside, but if numbers exceed there are plenty of outside sites. A lot of people have hobbies or small businesses making great products and the day helps them showcase and sell their wares. The event has a great community feel and around 300–400 people came along last year.
“The Malvern Cancer Support Group don’t do much fundraising, and it is nice to be able to give back to them because there is always someone that is affected by cancer and need help.
“We have been doing this event for seven to eight years and have grown with increased interest. Last year we raised more than $2,100.00 for the support group.
“There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy including classic cars on display, raffles, face painting by Beyond the Faerie Tree, along with cupcake decorating and the Red Cross will also have a cake and produce stall. There will also be BBQ, food and refreshments available for purchase.”
