Improv comedy delivers the laughs, with chaotic situations invented on the spot by talented comic actors and the audience

Improv goes international

by Andy Bryenton

When students of Rolleston College required extra fundraising help for their 2019 international food trip to Europe, they turned to a troupe of entertainers who have been lauded by the best in the business.

Friday, July 26 will see the talent behind Scared Scriptless take over Rolleston College for one night of improvised comedy action.

Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, has called the Court Jesters (the talented folks behind Scared Scriptless: We’re Not Joking About Europe) ‘one of the best improv troupes I’ve ever come across’. Their regular Scared Scriptless Friday and Saturday shows have become a firm favourite with audiences and the longest running improv comedy show series in New Zealand. For the Rolleston College engagement, three actors and one musician will craft an on-point, personalised show.

In addition to the main event, there will be fun auctions, raffles and refreshments. Doors open at 6pm, with the school’s auditorium transformed with both bleacher and table seating. Tickets are on sale now online.

Educators hope that this innovative approach to fundraising will help provide ‘the trip of a lifetime’ for students headed to Europe to experience the food, language and culture of the continent this November and December.
