Dog club hosts successful champs

The Selwyn Dog Training Club has hosted another successful championship show at its home ground Foster Park Dog Park.
The event held last weekend saw 60 dogs and their handlers competing in a range of activities designed to test their obedience and discipline.
Club secretary Lesley Taylor said entrants came from throughout New Zealand for the annual event and for many it was the culmination of years of training to get them ring-ready.
However, it is all worth it, she said.
“It gives you such a buzz when you are going through the different exercises, and you have a dog heeling happily alongside you. Some goals are achieved and, of course, there are also disappointments, but at the end of the day, you always take home the best dog.
“Last weekend we were very fortunate to have local supplier Ultra Dog Food as our sponsor, and we can’t thank them enough for coming on board.
It was very much a community event.”
Mrs Taylor said the club welcomed new members.
“It is going to be a busy month for the club with a Rally Champ show this weekend at the Canterbury Kennel Association grounds and the following weekend agility at Riding for the Disabled at the Addington Showgrounds,” she said. Mrs Taylor said that anybody wanting to attend these events or to join the club can email her at Selwyn_dtc@yahoo.co.nz for details.
