Students at Glentunnel School presented a variety of artworks that they created last term for their Art, Soup and Bun evening last week.

“Every term we work through a different topic and learning celebration with the students. We also celebrate weekly at assembly, and this helps the children understand that their learning has a purpose,” said teacher Debbie Schnell.

“At the end of the term, we put the artwork on display and invite the parents and friends from the community into the school to share our achievements with them. Last term’s theme was ‘perspective’, and the students discussed the connections and some children noted how the understanding of the topics or themes change as they get older.

“We have presented the evenings for three years, and they are very successful. The guests wander around looking at the displays, and the children get to explain what they have done and how they created their piece.

“It is a lovely social time, and the pupils enjoy seeing what other classes have done as well. They understand art is to be shared and that there is a message contained in it. It gives people a social occasion as well, and it helps our students become more engaged in their learning, and it gives their education a sense of purpose

“Every term is a busy and productive term for our school, and we are looking forward to next term and the events we have planned. Our staff work hard, and we appreciate the whanau that attend our celebrations.”
