Ethel and Bethel — the Bingo Biddies

Bringing back bingo

by Mike Isle

An upcoming fundraiser for Rolleston Scouts promises a new twist on an old favourite for a night of fun and frivolity.

Ethel and Bethel bring their unique brand of bingo this Saturday at the Rolleston Community Centre, helping raise enough to send the Rolleston Scout Jamboree Troop (boys and girls between 11 and 15 years old) to Mystery Creek for 11 days of adventure and experiences of a lifetime.

Ethel and Bethel have become something of an institution around the Canterbury region with their fundraisers. Self-styled as a couple of old biddies who love nothing more than a few rounds of bingo with a bunch of good folks looking for a fun-filled night out, Ethel and Bethel’s brand of bingo is coupled with humour and spontaneous performance outbursts.

For the Rolleston event, they invite everyone to dress up like they are going to an old-time, good-time bingo night. There will be plenty of raffles and a cash bar at the R18 event so bring some cash too.

The event starts at 7pm.

Tickets, which are limited, are $25 plus booking fee and can be purchased off the Eventfinda website.
