The excavation at Robinson Road

Latest Southern Motorway footage

The latest drone footage from the Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 2 is now on the internet.

It shows progress on the two interchanges at Weedons Road and Shands Road, now gearing up to take traffic over both bridges.

A NZ Transport Agency spokesperson said excavation in the middle of the old Main South Road for the Robinsons Road Overpass is progressing well along with the construction of the new southbound SH1 lanes.

The temporary road at Waterholes Road has been removed. Blakes Road has now become two formed cul-de-sacs as the alignment cuts through to continue heading east towards Shands Road.

At the Halswell Junction Road end of the project, the bridge looks in solid form with embankments beginning to be landscaped and kerbing occupying the majority of the south approach.

The project has been estimated to cost $195 million and is expected to be completed in 2020.

The latest drone footage, filmed this month, is on YouTube.
