The council is encouraging residents to get active and are offering more resources than ever to do it

Plenty to get active about

Term two of the Selwyn District Council’s community recreational programme Selwyn Activities has started and is already proving to be a bigger winner than ever with record numbers of activities and participants.

Two of the main venues, Rolleston Community Centre and Lincoln Event Centre have had growth in classes.

Other venues are catering to the popular demand: The Tai Tapu Community Centre and West Melton Community and Recreation Centre are running classes in 2019.

There are also new programmes at the district’s libraries.

Besides this, there are also several other programmes run by external groups such as day clubs, sports clubs and art groups.

The council’s community relations manager Denise Kidd said the programme met the needs of our whole community.

“The programmes we run are aimed at being affordable so everyone can access them and from young people to older adults. We can see that from our continual growth, and also positive feedback through surveys that we are tracking well.”

Denise Kidd said that Selwyn Activities is not confined to the recreation centres. There are also organised classes, events and activities provided by the district’s libraries and aquatic centres, as well as by private providers.

She recommends going to the Selwyn District Council website for a full list of activities, times and venues.
