It was a great day in the pool for West Melton School students as they competed in the Central Zone Swimming Tournament held last week at the Selwyn Central Aquatic Centre in Rolleston.

The school’s promotions and sports administrator Rita Spadoni said that 25 of her students competed and nine achieved top-three placings
and five qualified for the Canterbury Swimming Championship to be held in April.

“It was an action-packed day,” she said. “With some very keen swimmers.” One of those swimmers, Demi, said she was excited and proud of herself for making it through to the zones.

“I was a little nervous, to begin with, but then I could not wait to swim, and everyone around me was really happy and excited,” she said.

Ollie said it was fun and that it was the second year he had competed.
