Juniors at golf

The Hororata Golf Club recently ran a team event for children in the Selwyn District, which drew 25 players to the new junior programme as an initiative to take up the sport.

“Canterbury Golf has started the new initiative Selwyn Futures Golf to bring together junior players from the different clubs in the Canterbury region,” says Hororata Golf Club coaching coordinator, Pip Deans.

“The children played nine holes in ambrose on a shortened course. It is going to be a regular event to encourage the young to come along and play golf as a chosen sport, get to know each other and make new friends. The children enjoyed competing together and played with great team spirit.”

Pip says it is a good opportunity for families to come out with parents having input on the day as well.

“It was a great see families enjoying time together on the course and encouraging their children to try something new. The Willows Cafe at the club did a great job with the catering, and everyone had a good time.”

The next junior day is this Friday, December 21 as part of the club’s school holiday programme.
