Springtime run for fun

by Andy Bryenton

Sunday, November 4 is the day to enjoy the flat, family-friendly course of the Selwyn Running Festival. With an easy track, beautiful scenery and the mild weather of spring, it all comes together for a day of family fitness and fun.

“The flat, country roads of Ellesmere make the ideal course for athletes from all walks of life to put their training to the test,” say the organisers of this fun run. “The Ellesmere locals welcome all entrants and get out en masse to show their support. They will be the ones encouraging every athlete on their journey through the countryside.”

For those who want to get in shape for the coming summer, it’s a landmark day on the calendar.

With four race distances, walk, hybrid and run categories, and individual and team options, this quintessential country festival is right for everyone. All races are electronically timed, and the certified half marathon course even incorporates the Athletics Canterbury Championship.

After the athletic shoes come off, it’s time to relax and unwind. Anderson Square in Leeston plays host to the post-race festivities including live music, ample delicious food and drink options, and a cool grassy space in which to cool down.

It is a day of running for friends and family, teams of workmates, sporting clubs and more — so come and get amongst the springtime countryside on November 4, visit selwynsportstrust.org.nz/sporting-calendar/selwyn-running-festival and enter today.
