West Melton Playcentre farewells stalwart
by Kent Caddick
The West Melton Playcentre is getting ready for the new while saying farewell to one of its longest-serving staff members.
Playcentre coordinator, Pam Higgins, is leaving after almost 30 years of being involved with the early childhood education centre, which takes children up to the age of six.
A parent since 1990 and coordinator since 1999, Pam has decided to retire after and hand over the reins.
Playcentre’s, Fiona Giles, said Pam will be sorely missed.
“We held a goodbye party for her in July, which was well attended by Playcentre families past and present.
“Capably filling Pam’s shoes is new coordinator, Linda Weed. She brings with her a wealth of experience, having worked with Playcentre for 17 years in a variety of capacities. We warmly welcome Linda and look forward to working, learning and playing together.” Meanwhile, the Playcentre is readying itself for its move into the new West Melton Community Centre, which is currently under construction.
“Construction is progressing rapidly and it will soon be ready for move-in day,” Ms Giles said.
“We will have a large, spacious room with a sunny deck and a dedicated garden. The children love to peek through the fence to watch the diggers and trucks at work.
“We are busy with cleaning, clearing out and organising in time for the big move, later this year, and we are looking forward to showing everyone around at an open day once we get settled in.”
