However, it wasn’t enough to stop North Canterbury from wresting the Southbridge Shield away from the holders in a high scoring match. The shield is the symbol of Canterbury rugby sub union supremacy and has been played for since 1923 with Ellesmere the dominate sub union over the last 10 years.
