Art from recycled materials wanted

The Malvern Community Arts Council is calling on artists who create using recycled materials to submit their work for an upcoming exhibition entitled Found Objects as Art.
MCAC chair, Philip Baldwin, said while most people look at discarded plastics or broken glass and ceramics and just see a pile of junk, the Selwyn Gallery is inviting interested artists to recycle those materials in art works for its November exhibition.
“Artists are continually reminding us that reuse, recycling and innovative design can combine in creative ways to save resources while making one-of-a-kind art,” Mr Baldwin said.
“We are looking forward to seeing what kinds of art people will create with a variety of recycled materials.”
Mr Baldwin said as always they reserve the right to select the artworks to be on exhibit.
“Since the gallery is only able to show a limited number of works, we are setting a deadline of Thursday, September 20 for an application to exhibit.
“There will be a People’s Choice Award as part of the exhibition, so we will also encourage people to visit the Selwyn Gallery in Darfield through the month of November to vote for their favourite recycled artwork”.
Submission guidelines and exhibition applications are available at the Selwyn Gallery and on its website selwyngallery.co.nz.
