Selwyn groups and individuals involved in restoring and preserving the district’s heritage are being invited to apply for a grant to help them to continue their work.
Applications to the Selwyn Heritage Fund open this week and grants have previously funded projects including restoring chimney stacks, earthquake strengthening, window replacements, tree trimming or pruning and roof repairs. The Selwyn District Council says priority is given to items listed in the Selwyn District Plan.
“The heritage fund can be used to pay for part of the cost of restoration or protection work, and applicants will also need to fund some of this cost from other sources. Funding cannot be used for routine maintenance or for improvements, which are of personal or commercial benefit.”
Previous recipients include the former Dunsandel Methodist Church, Hororata Anglican Parish Hall, Southbridge Hall, The Parish of All Saints Church in Prebbleton and St Andrew’s Church in Glentunnel.
