by Kent Caddick
Waihora maintained its unbeaten record in the Ellesmere division one rugby competition while Darfield kept up the pressure on the table-toppers in the latest round of action over the weekend.
Waihora faced up to competition newcomers Springston on home soil at Rhodes Park on Saturday afternoon, and the visitors gave a good account of themselves. However, in the end, Waihora were too strong, running out winners 23–17.
Darfield travelled to Lincoln and was behind early when Lincoln scored within the first 10 minutes.
The first half was a very even affair as Darfield came back at the home side running in three tries and Lincoln adding two further tries to have Darfield narrowly in front 21–17 at half-time.
