Summit an opportunity for Selwyn tourism

Selwyn will be hosting its first tourism summit this month.

The Selwyn Tourism Summit is a free opportunity for local tourism operators to find out how their business can prepare and improve on their work with the international market to bring tourists to Selwyn.

Mayor Sam Broughton, said with the news that TRENZ is being held in Christchurch in 2020, the summit aims to help Selwyn vendors get ready for trade. TRENZ is the premier annual business-to-business travel and trade event for the tourism industry in New Zealand.

Mayor Broughton said the contribution of tourism to the Selwyn economy is growing.

“The tourism summit is an opportunity for those already in the tourism business to further improve their offering to visitors and to discover opportunities for collaboration.

“It’s also a chance for anyone interested in getting involved in tourism to gain a greater understanding of the market,” he said.

A number of guest speakers will speak to attendees about how to make the most of the upcoming TRENZ opportunity, including ChristchurchNZ International Trade Marketing Manager Julia Hunt, Project Director for Alibaba at the Christchurch International Airport Ken Freer and senior business originator for New Zealand Export Credit Office Phil Quinn is the (NZECO). He will speak about how to market tourism overseas, and NZECO’s range of Trade.

The Selwyn Tourism Summit takes place on Wednesday, June 6 from 1pm to 6pm at the Lincoln Event Centre. Places are limited, and people will need to email tourism@selwyn.govt.nz to register.
