Gold again for West Melton
by Kent Caddick
West Melton School has done it again, winning gold at the recent Oderings School Garden Show.
Put on by the Canterbury Horticultural Society the theme for the fourth annual garden show was ‘Into the Future’, and it’s the third year in a row in which West Melton has taken out gold in the competition.
However, it was the past, which inspired the West Melton students who took inspiration from the discovery of an old well in the school grounds.
Principal, Sue Jackson, said an old well was found beneath the school during recent renovations.
“The wishing well in our [show] garden both represents the past, but also allows us to make our own private wishes for the future.
“Our wishing well is divided and depicts clearly how our mind and our choices impact on our future wishes and plans.
“I was so impressed with the end result and the creativity and collaboration, which had gone into preparing this event and showcasing our school in the wider community.
“More importantly, the importance we attach to our environmental practices and how we ensure our learners drive their own learning, was clearly evident in our display.”
