Selwyn district libraries are getting into the spirit of Christmas with a number of events and their annual Cantastic Tree appeal.
Local residents are being asked to donate canned goods which will go to build a ‘canned’ Christmas tree in each of the Selwyn libraries.
The canned donations will then be given to the Ellesmere Food Bank Trust to help those in need right across Selwyn over the estive season.
People can put their donations on the Cantastic Tree at their local library and service centre between now and Monday, December 18.
Donations must be in cans, non-perishable, within the use-by or best-by date, and with original label. The libraries will also be holding a series of special Christmas storytime events and the popular Summer Reading Bingo programme aimed at encouraging youngsters to read.
Christmas storytime events will be held throughout December at the four Selwyn libraries. These family events will celebrate Christmas with stories, songs and other fun, and are aimed at children aged between two and seven, although families of all ages are welcome.
They will be held from 6pm to 7pm, at the Leeston Library, on Wednesday, December 6, Darfield Library — December 12, Lincoln Library — December 14 and Rolleston Library — December 18. Visit www.selwynlibraries.co.nz to book for the sessions.
