Be a part of the clan

The Hororata Highland Games is an event with Kiwi community spirit at its heart and organisers are calling for more people to join the clan.

Clan Hororata is a group of dedicated volunteers who work to stage one of the biggest Scottish Festivals in the Southern Hemisphere, this year being held on Saturday, November 11, at the Hororata Domain.

Games committee member John Ballagh said being part of Clan Hororata was heaps of fun and very rewarding.

“It brings challenges, but at the end of the day to see so many happy people who have come and enjoyed our event gives everyone in Clan Hororata a sense of pride,” Mr Ballagh said.

“Our community gets a whole heap bigger around the games with volunteers coming from within the Selwyn district, wider Canterbury, as far north as Auckland, and south to Dunedin to join the Clan.

“We even have some folk in Scotland who consider themselves part of our Clan.”

Not only are 200 volunteers needed on event day, it takes a big team to transform the Hororata Domain into the Hororata Highland Games and then to pack up again on Sunday. Anyone who pre-registers to be part of Clan Hororata, whether it be helping with the set up, pack down or on the day, receives free admittance to the event plus an invitation to the Prime Smoke ‘Clan Hororata’ Thank You BBQ immediately after the games. Anyone interested in becoming part of Clan Hororata can register by emailing or connect through Facebook.
