A libraries’ programme aimed at encouraging children to get creative and crafty will run across Selwyn during the school holidays.

The free ‘Grow and Discover’ programme is being run by libraries across Selwyn during the school holidays from October 2 to 15.

The ‘Grow your own Garden’ programme will teach children to grow flowers, herbs or vegetable gardens using recycled materials, while ‘Spring into Craft’ will involve using paint and collage to craft beautiful blossom trees.

Selwyn District Libraries manager Vicki Carlyon said they also need help on a secret project which they would like to decorate with children’s artwork. She said there would be a grand opening of the project once completed. “We hope to have many Selwyn children contributing to this secret project with their most creative decorations.

“There will be templates available at the ‘Spring into Craft’ sessions and at Selwyn District Libraries throughout the holidays for this secret ‘thing’,” Ms Carlyon said.

Rolleston Library will also be hosting a ‘Drop-in Discovery’ event which will include activities involving Lego, Duplo and BeeBots. For more holiday programme information and for bookings, go to
