West Melton School has been awarded a Silver Enviroschool status.

The Enviroschools’ programme supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.

West Melton earned its silver status following a presentation by the school’s Enviro Focus group of learners to Matt Sanford from Enviroschools recently.

Enviro Focus group is made up of the following students: Stacey M, Rosie B, Jed Mc, Isla Mc, Luke W, Lucy D, Georgia O, Alice R, Nash A, Iroquois R, Oliver S, Elisha H, Sophie H and Caleb D.

Enviroschool teacher Liz Coster said the group did an amazing job of presenting the enviro projects which are taking place across the school and answering a range of questions about the enviro connections evident at West Melton.

“This work reflects all of the passion and hard work that is committed towards enviro in our school and community,” she said.

“Through exploration, discovery and connections with the environment, tamariki and students experience how to make decisions and take action to improve the physical and social environment of our places, our community and our world.”
