Rolleston College on the road

Rolleston College has embarked on its first away sporting trip, with its Year 9 boys’ rugby team travelling to Blenheim to play Marlborough Boys’ College.
Rolleston’s first high school was opened in February of this year.
Principal Steve Saville said the trip was a significant event for the college as it was their first away trip for sport.
“We are hoping that next year Marlborough will bring a tour party down to Rolleston College as part of an annual sports exchange, which we are really excited about.
“It was a great game to watch and we are very proud of our boys for stepping up to the challenge.
“Also, we must give a massive thank you to New World Rolleston for supplying all the food to feed 19 boys for two days,” Mr Saville said.
The Rolleston College team started well in the match against the Marlborough boys’ U14 team and took an early 14-point lead. Marlborough came back strongly and took the lead at half time.
The second half was a great spectacle with both teams attacking from deep and showing good handling skills in wet conditions.
With 10 minutes to go Rolleston went ahead from an excellent solo try by number 8 Jake Pluck.
However, a late surge by Marlborough saw the home side score two more tries to take the inaugural encounter 46-36.
