Lincoln retakes competition lead

by Kent Caddick

Lincoln has opened up a four point gap at the top of the Selwyn premier netball competition with a win over Greenpark in a top of the table clash on Saturday.

Greenpark, which came into the match level on points with Lincoln, started the game in fine form, racing out to a 9-3 lead over the defending champions who had yet to taste defeat this season.

But as the first quarter rolled on Lincoln slowly clawed back the deficit and by the end of the quarter had edged in front 15-13.

Lincoln continued to press in the second quarter and by halftime had extended its lead to 34-26 with centre Char Porima and wing attack Tyler Rollo providing swift ball into the Lincoln shooting circle.

Greenpark never gave up the fight but Lincoln continued to extend its lead with goal shoot Hannah Wilson in top form.

Lincoln led 55-42 by the end of the third quarter and while Greenpark was able to match Lincoln goal for goal in the final quarter it could not claw its way back with Lincoln going on to win 68-55.

Broadfield and Southbridge moved into playoff contention with wins over Halswell and West Melton respectively.

Southbridge edged West Melton 48-30 while Broadfield dominated Halswell to run out winners 69-36. This coming weekend’s match between Southbridge and Greenpark will play a major factor in how the teams will line up in the semi-finals with Broadfield set to capture maximum points in its match against winless West Melton while Lincoln should be too strong for Halswell.
