Bowlers supporting St John

Entries are being called for the second annual Rolleston Indoor Bowling Club’s St John ambulance fundraiser.

The fundraising event will this year be held at the Rolleston Community Centre on the evening of September 16 with all proceeds going to Rolleston St John.

Organiser Walter Town said last year was the first time they ran the event.

“We had seen the success of a similar event being run in Darfield and we wanted to emulate this,” Mr Town said.

“We were delighted to be able to raise $1,200 last year and are hoping to at least match that this year.

“This evening is to show St John’s how much we appreciate the time and effort that they go to helping us in our time of need in this expanding district.

Mr Town said the event is not just for experienced indoor bowlers and that there would be help on the night for novices.

“We wanted it to be a family orientated event and last year we had a number of families involved.”

People can enter a team of four bowlers but only two are able to be experienced bowlers.

“In that way we are ensuring everyone has fun which, as well as raising money for a good cause, is what the event is about.”

Mr Town said also up for grabs on the night is the St John Challenge Trophy for the best team uniform.
