Lincoln asserts dominance

by Kent Caddick

Lincoln reaffirmed its favouritism for the Selwyn netball premier title this season with a win over its closest rival when the competition resumed on Saturday.

The competition took a break over the school holidays and then the previous week’s matches were postponed due to poor weather conditions.

When round three finally got underway on Saturday defending champions Lincoln faced Broadfield which has been the team to put the most pressure on Lincoln throughout the season.

As expected the first quarter was a tight affair with both teams playing aggressive, free-flowing netball. At the end of the quarter Lincoln had edged ahead 13-10.

While Broadfield continued to put up a fight Lincoln slowly gained dominance in the match and pulled away to take the game 50-34.

Newly promoted West Melton got a taste of the big time when it faced Greenpark and while the young West Melton side fought well in the early stages of the game it couldn’t match the power of Greenfield who went on to win 82-24.

In the other match of the round Southbridge was too strong for Halswell running out winners, 45-36.
