Old hall gives to its replacement

Fundraising for West Melton’s new community and recreation centre has received a boost thanks to the final event held in the old community hall which it is set to replace.
Locals recently held a ball in the West Melton Community Hall to farewell the old hall which is set to be removed to make way for a $6.9 million multi-purpose community and recreation centre adjacent to the domain.
The money raised from the ball will go to help community fundraising for the new community centre.
The committee behind the ball recently met up with Bruce Russell, chair of the new West Melton Community and Recreation Centre working party, to present him with a letter of intent to transfer the residue of the old hall’s, last ball’s bank account of $3,770 to the new facility’s fundraising account.
Mr Russell said they are delighted with the contribution.
“It is much appreciated and any such contribution from the community will help to reduce the subsequent impact of the new centre on ratepayers.”
The new purpose-built Community and Recreation Centre will replace both the old West Melton Community Hall and the West Melton Playcentre and provide a home to local groups.
