Selwyn talent on show

by Kent Caddick

With just over a week to go tickets for the Celebration of Screen and Stage Concert in Lincoln are selling fast.

The concert, to be held at the Lincoln High School hall on Saturday July 27, features a wide range of musical and theatrical talent from across the Selwyn district.

Performer and organiser of the event June Burney said while there have been events like Selwyn Sounds there has been nothing which features Selwyn only performers, and this is an opportunity for locals to hear those groups showcase their talent.

The concert will feature performances from members of the local musical theatre group the Kirwee Players, the 50-member strong Selwyn Community Choir, Selwyn Youth Choir and the Ellesmere Pipe Band.

“This event celebrates the music from well-known movies and musicals with over 100 performers taking to the stage across the evening.

“It’s a real family event with music from Moana, Grease, Blues Brothers, The Sound of Music, Hairspray and even the soundtrack from Outlander, complete with live pipes and drums from the Ellesmere Pipe Band.”

Mrs Burney is advising those who want to attend to get their tickets now as they are hoping for a sold out performance.

Tickets ($15) are available from the Lincoln and Rolleston Hammer Hardware stores or via eventfinda.co.nz.
