Blood donors wanted

Rolleston residents are being urged to help others by donating blood when the New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) visits this week.

The NZBS is holding a blood drive on Thursday in the Rolleston Community Centre between 2.30pm and 7pm.

NZBS donor recruiter Jules Askin said this week marks World Blood Donor Day and is hoping for a good turnout in Rolleston to boost their blood supplies.

“Their commitment and generosity ensures every single one of us has access to a safe and certain blood supply,” she said. “Nationally the blood service loses around 25,000 donors each year, which need to be constantly replaced so that we can continue to meet health service demands.

“The blood we collect and process is used to help more than 29,000 New Zealanders each year, from cancer patients, to trauma victims, to new mums and babies.” She said they prefer people to book an appointment by going to nzblood.co.nz.
