Leeston’s dog day afternoon

by Sara-Jane Ludemann

Leeston was inundated with canines recently when the town’s showgrounds played host to the Ellesmere A&P Society’s Championship Dog Show.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners from throughout the South Island, and some from further afield, descended on the showgrounds for the competition.

Some 400 dogs got to strut their stuff in front of the judges across a number of breeds from giant Newfoundlands to small but feisty Jack Russells.

The Record photographer Sara-Jane Ludemann went along to enjoy the spectacle.
