PM opens new Rolleston school

by Kent Caddick

Prime Minister Bill English dropped into Rolleston late last week to assist with the official opening of the town’s newest primary school.

Mr English was joined by Associate Minister of Education Nikki Kaye and Selwyn MP Amy Adams for the official opening of Lemonwood Grove School in the Rolleston subdivision of Faringdon.

The school opened its doors for the first time at the start of the school year with 59 foundation pupils.

Mr English, who told the gathered crowd he had attended primary school in Southland with Lemonwood Grove’s foundation principal Sean Bailey, unveiled a plaque commemorating the school’s opening. He, along with Ms Adams and Ms Kaye and Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton, presented all the school’s foundation students with a special badge to mark the occasion.

He then had a tour of the new facility and even had time for a spot of cricket in the school’s main courtyard.

The school is being developed in two stages with stage one being able to take up to 450 pupils and stage two is planned to take a further 300 students.
