Children’s day a hit

by Sara-Jane Ludemann

It was a great turn out for the 2017 Children’s Day event held at Rolleston Reserve and Community Centre on Sunday.

The event, which was held in near perfect conditions, was organised by the Selwyn parenting Network to celebrate the lives of the young ones in Selwyn.

There was plenty for the young ones and their families to see and do, with a wide variety of displays and activities both on the reserve and in the community centre.

Police, fire, ambulance and the army were in attendance with many enjoying the opportunity to get up close to the emergency service vehicles, with youngsters taking the opportunity to see how fast they could run while being checked by police speed radar.

The indoor events also proved popular as many sought shelter from the heat outside.

The Lego room was a real hit with children, and their parents, creating masterpieces from the plastic blocks, while the wooden toys in another room also proved popular.
